Building Character
Building Character
With every step taken from our earliest memories and every lesson learned, we have been building “our character.” We are strong, we have spent a Lifetime building blocks upon which to stand, strong and sure and near perfect. This is our “solid foundation.”
One of the most important lessons I learned as a very young teen happened at a youth conference in Toronto. Drawn to and standing at the fringe of a crowd of quiet teenagers, (that in itself not natural) I watched a teenage boy holding them all in thrall. My first reaction was that he was not attractive, so what exactly was the draw?
Like a sponge needing an answer to the question of “why” I waited to learn just exactly what there was about this young boy that appeared to be so exciting to the others. As I listened to him entertain, talk, make us laugh, I totally forgot my first impressions. I no longer saw an unattractive boy, who was too tall and very skinny with a bad haircut and acne scarred face. I stood entranced watching a ” power house” of intelligence, humour and personality … who had complete confidence in who he was.
To find such strength in one so young was an inspiration to me. His “Beauty” is what I saw. I was probably around thirteen and everywhere I looked there were lessons to be leaned and I found that amazing. I never forgot this lesson and many years later I related this concept of “Beauty” to my two oldest granddaughters who are truly beautiful. “Never forget that outward beauty is a Gift and it will make your life easier.
Never … Abuse this Gift!
